Treating Your Chinchilla’s Health Problems

Prevention is certainly better than cure and same goes for both humans and animals. Prevention is the most important thing in order to ensure that your pet Chinchilla is healthy at all times. There are a lot of things that are crucial in ensuring that your pet is healthy all the time. You need to be able to provide your pet with a clean cage and foods that are not only clean but also fresh and same goes for the water. Make sure that your pet’s food and water are not only clean but also insect free. When these requirements are not met, you will simply cause harm to your pet’s health that might eventually lead to their death.

 

Below is a list of some of the most common problems that can risk the health of your pet Chinchilla:

 

Constipation:

If your pet’s bowel movement is irregular and dry, chances are it is constipated. If their bowel airs a foul odor, then this can also be due to the fact that your pet is constipated. Give your pet a combination of fresh water and hay and about one to two pieces of raisins.

 

Bloating:

If you pet Chinchilla’s bowel contains mucous, they will appear to be bloated – literally. Make sure that you pet exercises regularly to avoid this.

 

Diarrhea:

Diarrhea is very common in Chinchillas and is usually caused by the types of food that it eats. Check your pet’s food and water constantly and regularly to make sure that it is kept clean all the time. Also, diarrhea can also be due to environmental changes particularly in weather so this is something that you need to be conscious of.

 

Seizures and Cramping:

Seizure is the act of trembling that you can see with your pet. This type of illness or condition is usually due to stress, certain injuries or your pet’s lack of exercise. If your pet’s teeth is white, chances are it lacks calcium. Make sure that when you notice these symptoms, you immediately try and do something about it.

 

Get A Vet

Make sure to consult with a veterinarian when you see these symptoms in your pet Chinchilla:

Severe diarrhea or constipation, injury of the eye from a sharp object, pneumonia, weight loss, ingesting poison, or broken bones with any part of the body. Any of these will require additional medical care from a specialized veterinarian.

 

Avoid

No one wants their pet Chinchilla to experience this type of condition. So here is a list of the things that you can do to avoid such circumstances in relation to your pet:

- Make sure that your pet’s cage is always kept clean.

- Let your pet stick to a particular type of food for a long time. Chinchillas have a hard time adjusting to certain food types.

- Avoid carrying your pet Chinchilla all the time. Don’t move them instantly. If there is a need to do so, make sure that you do it gradually.

- Keep your pet’s food always fresh and clean.

- Keep your pet’s water fresh and clean at all times as well.

- Make sure that you feed your pet Chinchilla with foods that come in small portions.

- Make sure that your pet is able to rest in the mornings.
